Grace Cathedral is an Episcopal cathedral located in the Nob Hill district of San Francisco. Laid out on the floor of Grace Cathedral is a labyrinth that is based on the famous medieval labyrinth of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres located in Chartres, France. It is said that if a visitor walks the pattern of the labyrinth, it will bring them to a meditative state. It is on this labyrinth that we practice yoga.
The cathedral community is known for its open-mindedness. They frequently host events from other spiritual traditions (such as yoga) and the community was among the first Christian denominations to ordain women and gays and lesbians.
The cathedral has become an international pilgrimage center for both church-goers and tourists wanting to view the world famous architecture including a replica of Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise, an indoor and an outdoor labyrinth, spectacular stained glass windows, artwork from famed artist and AIDS activist Keith Haring, and an array of medieval and contemporary furnishings.
